My
first novel, Lost Dog, is slated for release April 2007. Last week, it appeared
at Amazon.com, available for pre-order. Just as exciting for me is
the chance to show off the cover, which I think is just gorgeous. Huge
thanks to Lisa Novak, designer at Midnight Ink for her fabulous work!
For a larger view of the cover, check out the Lost Dog page at my web
site.
The Killer Year 2007 and ITW
Last month, I mentioned my membership in the Killer
Year, a group of
mystery and thriller writers with debut novels coming out next year.
This week the International
Thriller Writers announced the adoption of the
Killer Year. Prominent ITW authors have volunteered to mentor each member
of the Killer Year. ITW will also host a Killer Year Breakfast at
ThrillerFest next summer where each of us will be introduced to readers,
reviewers and the press. At that's just the beginning. I am very honored
to be a part of the inaugural Killer Year.
My own mentor is Anne Frasier, amazing author of (most recently) Pale
Immortal, as well as Hush, Sleep
Tight, Play Dead, and Before
I Wake. I am thrilled and humbled to have Anne as my mentor.
As part of this announcement, the Killer Year has just launched a new
website with
information and features about all the members. You can learn about the
books, the authors, see upcoming events and appearances, read reviews
and more. Also, please check out MJ
Rose's announcement for more details about ITW and The Killer Year at
the Killer
Year blog!
Writing and Stuff
I am nearing completion of my current work-in-progress, which is no longer
titled Whatever It's Called. These days it's called Skin.
Who knows what it will be called next week? You can read the award-winning first chapter here. Also, please stop by my blog for
musings about writing or whatever comes to mind.
Upcoming Events
This week , I'll be travelling to Madison, Wisconsin to attend BoucherCon
2006. On Sunday morning, October 1, at 10:30am, I'll appear on a panel,
HOW REAL DO YOU NEED TO KEEP IT? The other panelists will be Jodi Compton,
Marshall Cook (Moderator), Ellen Crosby, and Julia Spencer-Fleming.
In February, I'm on my way up I-5 to Seattle for Left
Coast Crime 2007, and then next July I'll be at ThrillerFest
2007 in
New York.
Peter McKrall, goes to the park early one morning to find his niece's
lost toy dog. He doesn't realize his search is being watched by the paranoid
killer of the dead hooker he finds instead. Peter's
efforts to stay out of the cross hairs of both the police and the killer,
as well as come to terms with his own grim history, are aided and hindered
by a cast of unusual and richly drawn characters, including Darla, the
bitter, broken daughter of the dead prostitute, Skin Kadash, sardonic homicide
detective, and Ruby Jane Whittaker, lively and eccentric mistress of coffee.
